Book Description

12 Nov 2009 0521728355 978-0521728355
Entrepreneurship is an integral part of economic change and growth. Yet until recently it has been largely neglected by economists. In The Economics of Entrepreneurship, Simon C. Parker draws on theoretical insights and recent empirical findings to show how economics can contribute to our understanding of entrepreneurship. The book is based on an earlier work, The Economics of Self-employment and Entrepreneurship (Cambridge University Press, 2004), that has quickly become an essential reference for academics researching the economics of entrepreneurship. Written in a more accessible style, this book contains much that made this earlier work so successful and, in addition, includes improved pedagogical features and new material on the theory of the firm, spin-offs, nascent entrepreneurship, growth-enhancing knowledge spillovers and social entrepreneurship. It can be used both as a reference text for academics from a variety of disciplines and as a textbook for graduate students.

5.0 out of 5 stars economics of entrepreneurship 8 Feb 2010
By Robert Fairlie, Professor of Economics - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a great book. I highly recommend it for anyone who is interested in the economics, policy, and social issues related to entrepreneurship. It's packed with information about all aspects of entrepreneurship. It's certainly the most complete review and summary of the topic to date. I also recommend it to entrepreneurs and policymakers who want to "dig a little deeper" into the economic issues surrounding entrepreneurship. It's written in an easily accessible way.
5.0 out of 5 stars very thorough overview of academic work on entrepreneurship 22 Jun 2012
By Arturs Kalnins - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book provides a very thorough overview regarding the state of academic knowledge in the field of entrepreneurship. It is well written and highly readable for an academic volume. Parker precisely describes the findings of several hundred academic studies and synthesizes them into a coherent whole. Invaluable for those who study entrepreneurship, and likely helpful and interesting for practicing entrepreneurs as well.
