My mum being a true eastender , and a teenager in the 2nd world war, told us stories that to us sounded unbelievable about her ancestors,this book really brings it home as to what other members of her family actually had to endure, the book not only depicts sad times but also good comaraderie, it is truly a good read,

If you are thinking of buying this book, be warned that it is a picture book. Despite the way it is described by the publishers, it is a book of photographs with very little descriptive or analytical text. Some of the images are good, but it is of limited use to anyone wanting to read about the east end during WWII.
