3.0 out of 5 stars well written 13 May 2013

not too believable.I don't think an empire would allow their emmissaries to have as much authority as this and would not be as easily defeated.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great little read 22 May 2012

This short story was a great read. The concept is very original and enjoyable. The story relates what happens to a peaceful planet, one of Earth's lost colonies, after the military might of Earth arrives, hell bent on mining the planet's resources. It isn't long, which is why I gave it 4 out of 5 instead of 5, but it is very well written, thought provoking and of a professional standard. The introduction was a bit hard to take, introducing new people and names left right and centre with no character development, but that soon settles down and you get to know the main characters in the short length of this story.

The story has some wise words to share about peace, humanity, the insanity of war and finishes with a nice series of twists.
I feel the writer is very gifted, and look forward to reading more of their work. This is a good short read, well worth downloading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little read! 22 Jun 2012

I don't really read short stories in ebook form but the premise sounded good and I was familiar with the author, so I tried it. I was glad I did.

It's a very thought-provoking flip-flop of the classic tale of imperial tyranny. I found myself simultaneously rooting for the peaceful local people, but at the same time screaming at their naivety and sheep like behavior. The author did a good job in bringing out contrasting emotional responses from me in such a short piece. The twist at the end was satisfying, and I enjoyed the social commentary on the strengths and weaknesses of the human race, applicable to us in the here and now, as in this futuristic setting. It worked all the better, because the author didn't ram this commentary down our throats, he let us assimilate it from the story.

Good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Short Story 27 May 2012

I normally like the long book (or three) to have the plot and characters fleshed out, but with time being limited, I started checking out these shorter storys. I was quiet happy with this one.

The idea is fresh and works well in the short story format. It gives you something to think about and while it does jump into the names of various characters (as another reviewer mentioned), it is easy to follow and develops well. Since it was well written, it shows promise for the author's future books.
