1.0 out of 5 stars It must have been a potboiler 3 Aug 2006
Format:Mass Market Paperback
When this came out I bought it immediately - another Gordy Dickson = some good reading has always been my motto. I am sorry to say that the premise was ridiculous and that the writing was substandard. To add insult to injury, this was all done at excessive length. A very poor book from a very good writer.

To avoid similar disappointment, also avoid the ludicrous "Magnificent Wilf" - you would not believe either book could have been written by the author of "None but Man" or "Steel Brother".

4.0 out of 5 stars Hidden powers 1 Aug 2002
Format:Paperback
Dickensson has written a imaginative story in the Earth Lords. Good background story, charactarisation is belivable if just a bit vauge.

In a hidden labyrint under the Canadian wilderness the dwarfish Earth Lords plot the downfall of mankind while keeping captured humans as slaves. Their domesday device is near completion.

Bart Digby is betrayed by the brother of his love and captured. He is made a 'Steed' - a man horse for the lords. He vows to escape and twart the plans of the Lords. Bart is gifted with mental and physical abitities from his strange heritage.

The story has a somewhat abrubpt ending. It is almost as if the author was planing to write a series and all of a sudden decided to make it just one book.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best fantasy books ever written. 30 April 2002
By Greg - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book will absolutely envelope you with it's sense of place (Canadian wilderness), excellent writing, and just plain good story. I've read thousands of novels, but this is truly one of the few books that I didn't put down; I read it all in one sitting! Well worth the used price, as it's out of print new. THE EARTH LORDS is tie with Raymond Feist's FAERIE TALE for best fantasy book of all time. Reserve your copy before they're gone for good.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Thought-Provoking and entertaining book 14 Jan 2000
By Robert Baker-Self - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Gordon Dickson's Earth Lords, as with most great Science Fiction, actually a book about now. His depiction of an alienated and discriminated against group plotting revenge against the world that made them outcasts should strike a chord with everyone who reads it. In addition, the characterisation, plot and prose are excellent, this is an 'easy' read, the pages turn quickly and the story envelopes you with ease. What it isn't is easy thinking. A book well worth seeking out.
