5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book! 25 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was a delight to read and some of the crafts are very useful. I have a Pagan daughter who has read this book and was very excited to be able to make her own altar. It has so many activities in it to keep her occupied and the other information on festivals etc is informative but not too in depth that it becomes boring. She loves this book and I would reccommend it to anyone with a young Pagan in their family.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Little Bit of Everything 25 Nov 2012
By S. Blooding - Published on
I am always a big supporter of anything that teaches our kids the healthy ways of being Pagan. Honestly, I can't say as I've come across anything unhealthy. The Pagan community is filled with such warm and loving people, and the teachings are very warm and loving as well.

As soon as I saw this set of books, I was super excited! It looked really neat from the outside! And it appeared to be very versatile!

I can tell you after reading it, that is IS both! Now, there are things in here that younger kids just won't be interested in. *shrug* That happens. Keeping kids interested in things is always a challenge to parents. But there are tools that Ms. Ashwood provides to assist parents in KEEPING it interesting!

One of the things that I absolutely love about this book, is that it's a way for the parent and the child/children to bond. Everything is interactive. This isn't the kind of book that you just hand to a child and say, "Here you go. Have fun. See you in an hour." No.

The other thing that I love is that there are so many arts and crafts. There are things in here that I would do just to DO them because I have a kenetic mind and these crafts will help me to understand certain things, like chakras. I never really got that. I mean, yeah, I get the idea and basic concept, but it was just a bunch of memorization for me, so I said, "Meh! NEXT!!! Light a candle? You betcha!" and moved on.

Another thing that I just love is that we're using a lot scraps. This goes to the very backbone of what I believe to be a Pagan positive. If you can reuse, do that. Don't clutter up the world around you with stuff you already have unless you absolutely HAVE to!

The ONLY reason this is getting four dragons instead of five is because when I picked it up, I thought it would be written more for the child (and by child, I mean someone very young). It's not. It's written for the parent, but there are fun games and things for the child. Maybe I just totally missed the bus on this one. I don't know. But...*shrug*...meh! I don't know. That's my opinion.

LOL! So, do I recommend these two books? YES!! Should you get them? YES! I think, honestly, that this is a really great introduction to Paganism to anyone who's interested, but hesitant or scared. It's a very earthy approach and really introduces the Pagan religions well. There's a little there for everyone!

I received a free copy in return for an honest review

5.0 out of 5 stars I've been waiting for something like this forever! 26 Oct 2012

This book is really great. Simple and straight forward with lots of flexibility. Can be made very simple for the very young or more in-depth for older kids. Be sure to get BOTH book 1 and book 2. There are few books for teaching earth based spirituality to kids but this is more like a homeschool program. I thinks it's very well done and very well organized.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Years Long Wait 19 April 2013
By S. Lehnert - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The first time I heard of this book was about 10 years or so ago, when my oldest (now 12) was still a toddler. I remember feeling very excited and highly anticipated the promised release of this amazing book! And a year passed... and another, and another. Still no book. AND FINALLY! The author managed to get these books released and while I'm not liking the price so much, the books were definitely worth the wait. For the most part.

I have to say that Volume 1 is definitely my favorite, as there are a lot more cut and color pages for my kids to do, and they are really into that sort of stuff. The craft ideas and recipes are also lots of fun for them to do WITH me, which is also really great, it gives me a chance to actually teach my pagan faith to my kids in a way that they are able to understand and remember. My youngest (who is 5) is most fond of the paper altar tools.

Now, my biggest complaint is that this book is really geared for I'd say 3-years old to maybe 9-years old children, as my younger 2 are really enjoying the books. My oldest likes the mazes and the word searches, but gets pretty bored with the other stuff, so it might have been more interesting for him if there had been more of those sorts of activities.

Other than that, I honestly am thrilled I finally got these books! Like I said, I've been waiting ages for them, and plan to use them with my kids, my nieces and nephews and some of the other kids I babysit.

The activities are great for the children and educational. My daughter loves the book as much as I do. I recommend this to any practicing Wiccan trying to pass along wisdom to their children.

This book is awesome. I got this for my 11 year old daughter who will be taking her vows to the Earth on Beltane. There are so many projects we can do together or she can do on her own. We love to up-cycle together and this book gives great ideas and comes with lovely cut outs. I look forward to doing this with her and know she will enjoy it.
