The dyke and the dybbuk is the story of a Rainbow Rosenbloom, a London cabbie and part-time film critic, about as kosher as bacon-covered lobster. Accompanied with a gaggle of interfering female relatives, the book follows her possession by a demon (dybbuk) and subsequent adventures, including her hopeless pursuit of an ultra-orthodox, deeply religious, married woman. It's funny, sassy and sprinkled with yiddish. If you want a laugh, a supernatural romp or just a quality gay novel from this side of the pond, this is all those things and more. Never takes itself too seriously and never boring ****
