Book Description

What's in a name? Meet the Dunderheads, an unlikely band of kids with extraordinary hidden talents!

Product Description

“Never,” shrieked Miss Breakbone, “have I been asked to teach such a scraping together of fiddling, twiddling, time-squandering, mind-wandering, doodling, dozing, don’t-knowing DUNDERHEADS!” Miss Breakbone, the school mistress, hates kids. She shouts, she confiscates, she makes kids cry. But one day she goes too far. She confiscates the one-eyed cat that Junkyard is going to give his mum for her birthday. So the children pool their many weird and wonderful talents to break into Breakbone’s house and get Junkyard’s cat back for him...

Witty Fun 24 May 2011
Format:Paperback
We first had this book from the library and it was such a hit that we bought our own copy. It has been a favourite ever since. Fantastic David Roberts illustrations and witty text. We like to read it in a Philip Marlowe voice and pretend it's a film noir.

As a family we love David Roberts illustrations and it was the cover that drew me to the book. My 5 year old told me it looked boring but he was gripped from the first page and had to admit at the end he was wrong. It is definitely a story with some bite, as long as he doesn't act it out at school, especially the spitting!

Just desserts 2 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback
A funny, subversive story about a dreadful teacher and a group of resourceful children. Of course the children get the better of the teacher in the end.
The illustrations are good and the book should appeal to quite a wide age range.
