I can't imagine anyone buying this who didn't watch it as a kid, so there's no need to explain what the show's about. The disc contains 3 of the early episodes, in 4:3 with a mono soundtrack. The picture quality is surprisingly good, and all of your favourite characters are included - Bo, Luke, Daisy, Uncle Jesse, Boss Hogg, Rosco, Enos and Cooter.
There's not much in the way of extras compared to more modern material, just a few stills of Daisy and the General Lee, and a few stats about the show.
You'll need your rose tinted spectacles when watching this - some of the effects are showing their age. I certainly don't remember the in-car scenes having a projected background. However, that's kind of missing the point - this is good clean fun that will have you fondly remembering Saturday evenings in front of the TV when you were younger.
Fans of the car will be disappointed in that there are no jumps in any of the episodes featured here, nor is the famous Dixie horn sounded anywhere - so best to wait for some of the later episodes if that's what you're after.
If this whets your appitite, there are lots of other 80s shows out on DVD, like the A-Team and Knight Rider. I bought this while on a nostalgia trip, having watched a few too many 'I love 1980' type shows. So was the trip worth it? On the whole - yes.
