This story is as superficial as anything one can come up with. It was very disappointing. The reason I bought it, was because the sample seemed promising. However, that is all that was/is promising about this book.
The characters are not well developed, neither is the plot for that matter.
Our Heroine is supposed to mature and find her own way in the world, as she (along with her 6 siblings) has continously disappointed her father, so he has issued an ultimatum. This maturing happens while she teaches young girls (after she has run away to hide, mind you - a very mature thing indeed) to pour tea, shop, and the proper way to use their fans, whilst publishing a column about the very same things. HMMM!!! Quiet the maturing, character building experience.
Also, she seems rather promiscious. She slept with our Hero (who in my opinion is a bit of a fool, not that anticipated alpha male) at the very beginning of the book, in a library, cast in shadows (so they both do not know each other's identities) as a moment of loneliness, missing her dead fiance. I can understand that; however, she then sleeps with the hero again, after being introduced to him as someone not himself (and he thinks he recognizes her, but isn't quiet sure). And here is another issue, her love for her fiance has vanished; she has not mentioned him or thought of him since the first few chapters in the book.
The love story between the two is not at all well developed. They are thrown into each others' company and nothing of consequence happens. There is no witty banter, no discussions whatsoever. How are they supposed to get to know one another and develop a relationship.
Our hero's history is also bland. Inheriting the dukedom after his brother passed, the current duke is confused and is giving into the urgings of others - grandmother - inorder to rid the family name of their ill reputation. At the end he shows some backbone by standing up to his grandmother and marrying the heroine. Even the pressure he is put under is underdeveloped.
I really don't see why this book got published. Some serious revisions were needed. I don't understand why this book costs so much money. I too (like one other reviewer) wishI could sell my kindle version of it. IT IS NOT WORTH IT!!!
