I have all books in the series and I really enjoyed 'The Duke' and 'Lord of Fire', for me it was addictive reading and the stories have fine detail and suspension - I really cared about the charachters. Foleys writing has improved since 'The Pirate Prince' series. I would not go so far as to compare Foley's writing to that of the Queen of Regency; Georgette Heyer, but in my opinion: a hard task for any writer to live up to. I recommend 'The Duke' and the other books in the series to any reader who enjoys curling up reading Regency Romance and not wanting to put down your book until it's finished. I rate this series on par with those written by Brenda Joyce or Stephanie Laurens.

This is the first book in a series and is a well written romance. I have all of Gealan Foleys books, they are all great. They are hot and steamy...very much different from Georgette Hayer books, but still conform to good written romance. You'll read this and you'll want the rest.

The Duke - The first book in the Knight Miscellany series.

The Storyline:
Dolph is infatuated with Belinda (our heroine) so he has her father put in jail and gets her fired from her job, just so that she has to marry him. Bel refuses and ends up becoming a courtesan. Robert Knight (Knight - sigh!) Duke of Hawkscliffe, thinks he can use Bel to find out the truth (about a murder) from Dolph because of his infatuation with her. So Robert strikes a deal with Bel. He becomes her protector and she has to pretend to be Robert's Mistress. Gradually over the Season, they start to fall in love and Robert protects, cares and even risks his life for Bel.
Unfortunately, the scheming Earl of Coldfell offers Robert a plum political position in exchange for marrying his daughter Juliet. Bel won't be mistress to a married man, so will Robert come to his senses in time and realise that Bel means more to him than risking any scandal? Will Robert agree to marry Juliet? Can Robert live without Bel? Is Dolph the murderer? Will they all live happily ever after? Read it and find out.

I re-read it time and time again and still enjoy it. I have read this story countless times now and it is such a FANTASTIC book. The characters, storyline, detail, places Foley describes and romance are all excellent. She makes you feel part of the story and you really want them to live happily ever after. Bel is an intelligent and beautiful heroine who has made the best of the bad situations she has fallen into. Something like this only comes in once in once life..a story like this is ..its beautiful..sexy..and simply heartwarming..I love Bel's personality..And Robert is where the word Hero was from!...He's too good to be true! Its warmth my heart to see Roberts warming up to Bel even though he thinks that she is a wanton..butshe realy is acting it...and chapter after chapter you see how he is step by step feeling protective towards her..and then they both feel this attraction...when Bel spills the beans about her past..(thats my fav part by the way)..its just sets your heart on fire and you start to reach for the characters..i almost came to tears a few time through the book..when roberts say "You are my lady and i fight for your honor" or something like that...anyway it got to me....Buy this or regret it for the rest of your life..

This was my first Gaelen Foley novel and it certainly won't be the last! The author takes your hand and carries you into England's past in such a way that you are reluctant to let go.

The Duke is the story of a heart-sore gentleman seeking revenge for the death of the woman he believed he had a tendre for, and a wronged beauty who is forced to presume the role of a courtesan in London's elitist society after life has dealt her a savage blow.

Hero and heroine in turn both sizzle and snuggle together in an addictive read that had me willing the fates not to conspire against them. I have read quite a number of books set in this historic period and usually find myself quickly returning to the incomparable Georgette Heyer. In this case, I went and ordered the second of Gaelen Foley's Miscellancy series, in the hopes that I would discover another really good story to lose myself in.

Belinda Hamilton is young, beautiful and vulnerable. Her father has been locked away in prison after falling into debt and now she must do all she can to survive, even if it means going against her pride and honour. When the noble and handsome Duke of Hawkscliffe offers to be her Protector in return for her help in catching an alleged murderer, Bel knows she must accept. After all, the Duke only asks for her help, not her body. It seems like the perfect arrangement but as a dangerous attraction develops between them, Bel risks going against the first and most important rule of a courtesan- never fall in love.

Miss Hamilton is the perfect heroine full of beauty, wit and compassion. After losing her job at a young girls' finishing school she refuses to be beaten and knows she must do all she can to help her father. She is certainly no weak, timid female but beneath her hardened surface lies a vulnerability and fear, which she is determined to hide.

Bel and Hawkscliffe appear to be a match made in heaven but there is only one thing stopping them from living happily ever after: Society. Faced with a heartbreaking decision, they risk losing each other to please the outside world.

Not only is this book wonderfully romantic, the plot is very gripping and excellently written. An expert in her field, Foley avoids making the story seem corny and the characters shallow. The ending however, did seem rather far-fetched and not what I would have chosen but that certainly didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book. It was some of Foley's other work which got me hooked on this genre and for that I thank her greatly. Nothing beats a bit of Regency romance.

If you're after heart-melting romance and raw sexual passion this book is exactly what you need.... Read more ›
