Having dieted in many ways, some extreme, some unhealthy, many involving deprivation and an accompanying sense of desperation and hunger, I wish I had learned about The Dukan Diet a long time ago. This diet would be perfect for bodybuilders, it epitomises the ideal, high protein, clean diet, low in carbs but somehow satisfying, that I would have given my right arm for years ago when I was involved in competition.
After an accident, I gained a few stone a few years ago, I wanted to lose the remaining few pounds that have stubbornly remained despite my now having reasonable level of fitness.
This four-stage diet appears to be doing the trick. It isn't like Atkins in that it is low fat, so don't be fooled into making any superficial comparisons. It is structured and well thought out and there is enough variety offered to satisfy all but the most pernickety palate. The only observation I would make is that it would be tough for a strict vegetarian or vegan to follow, but by no means impossible.
There are of course issues with a high protein diet, especially in the early stages, and Dr. Dukan is very clear about the problems that arise from a low fibre intake, but this is only for a short while. You do need to actually read the book, rather than simply skip to the precis of each stage of the diet. There are useful hints and tips, warnings, and guidelines which will assist you in losing any excess you choose. So long as you drink sufficient water and follow the recommendations and suggestions, this will work. Oh and some of the recipes are great!
This regime puts you in charge. Whether you want to lose 10lbs or have been too heavy for a while and want to do something about it, this is the way to go!
