5.0 out of 5 stars Duffy is just a pale imitation... 24 April 2008
Format:Audio CD
Listen to this album and realise how short our memories are. I bought the cassette over 20a ago and then - tragically - neglected it whilst my musical tastes went all over the place. I re-discovered it perhaps 2 years ago in my cassette box and you should find it too. Don't go for any greatest hits collection as an alternative; there are gems on this album rarely heard now including what I regard as the greatest version of 'Tracks of my tears' bar none, as well as the ever-sublime 'Bad Day'. Duffy can only ever hope to be this good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Before Their Time 5 April 2011
Format:Audio CD
Carmel were a brilliant little band as a three piece who were never overpowered by expanded big band arrangements. Carmel McCourt's voice was clearly their biggest asset but as a voice/rhythm section combination they were a genuine band no matter how many or few other musicians joined them on stage or in the studio. It is c shame that they were so far ahead of their time. Had they emerged within the last five years they would have dominated the globe by now. You just need to look around at all the women in the current charts, Adele, Duffy etc, to see that this would have been a far better time for Carmel to come onto the scene.

Songs such as More More More, Bad Day, Willow Weep For Me, Tracks of My Tears... make this a really compelling album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forgotten 80's Gem. 4 Nov 2009
Format:Audio CD
One of the first cds I bought back in the early days of compact discs. Utterly brilliant and about 22 years ahead of it's time in a retro kind of way. I remember seeing Carmel on 'The Tube' years ago and it really put the hook in me. So I went out and bought 'The Drum Is Everything'. Sparse and yet soulful with the very fine voice of Carmel herself. Wonderful tunes like 'More, More, More' and 'Bad Day'. Why has this not been given the re-issue treatment it deserves I don't understand.
