My husband wanted this book as a Christmas present for one of his drum pupils, as he has the original edition and always treasured it. He was absolutely delighted to find this updated edition and his pupil loves it. It contains everything the drum enthusiast needs to know about different makes of drum and drummers. It arrived beautifully packaged on the day it was scheduled to arrive. Excellent!
Maestro drummer and historian, Geoff Nicholls, has done it again with this superbly up-dated and enhanced Second Edition of what is already the undisputed champion of all Drum Books. The well-written, easy-to-read story of how the drum set was created and how it evolved over the decades gives all the information any enthusiast for drums could want to know. The text is supported by lots and lots of beautiful full-colour photographs showing how the drum set changed over the years. There are many references to the top drummers in rock, pop and jazz with details of what kits they used and how their style and talent moved the music forwards.
Ajax, Premier, Ludwig, Slingerland, Gretsch, Trixon, Carlton, Rogers - these are the names which conjure up a Golden Age of drum-design and production. They are all here in what is surely the masterwork on the subject. This lavishly produced book represents tremendous value for money and the writer's wealth of knowledge and love for his subject are evident on every page. Don't miss this one.

A drummer's must have.

"Updated" usually means the same book with an extra chapter at the end. But Nicholls decided to republish this book from scratch with a larger format, more information and a ton of new, beautifully reproduced photos. An exquisite expose on the evolution of the drum set. There are, however, a number of pictures in the first edition that aren't in this one so you may want to purchase both.
