Great for getting a non-profit organization back on track 6 Aug 2009

I've served on several non-profit and for-profit boards in the past 30 years. It seems to me the two non-profits of interest to me now have lost their way; each board is floundering and the CEO doesn't really understand the role of the CEO, the role of board members (and the board) and none of us understand the mission, our reason for doing what we do. After reading Drucker's book on managing the nonprofit organization, I KNEW we were in trouble and I had a sense of the solution.

When I got Drucker's Five Questions book, I followed up by getting this text. It took me only a few hours to buy copies for each board member of both organizations. I'm now setting up visits with each director, giving them a copy of this booklet for their review.

This text is a great tool for any non-profit -- or for-profit corporation, too.

Peter Drucker has hit the nail on the head. This is strategic planning at its best, particularly for nonprofit organizations. The process is simple and concise, based on Drucker's 5 basic questions. The approach is comprehensive and inclusive. I recommend it to the leadership of any nonprofit organization.

I am struck by its simplicity and by the depth of its value. Seeking to change the old paradigms of a beloved, yet antiquated traditional organization, while at the same time fostering the public support of long-time stakeholders, is daunting. But this no-nonsense approach perpetuates joint problem solving and ownership. DISCOVERY of the real, not assumed, answers to five essential questions helps to level the playing field. I am recommending its use and am seeking support for sponsorship of the two day seminars.
