Book Description

27 Oct 2011

Bobs and Ba live in happy prosperity. They began with nothing, but now they have a successful chain of car repair yards. Bobs has even bought a racehorse! But on a Caribbean holiday to celebrate Bobs' fiftieth birthday, it becomes clear he is a man with things on his mind. Has he found a younger woman? The receipt in his pocket from Sasha Lingerie is pretty damning. And what's the terrible secret in the cupboard behind his pool table? As the gossip starts at the golf club and the kids stop calling, Ba's life is turned upside down. What's more, her daughter Melody is getting married and everyone's nerves are in shreds. It takes events beyond their control to show Bobs and Ba just what their marriage is made of.

From the Back Cover

Did he cheat on you? It doesn't matter, sometimes the doubt is enough. A man and a woman. Bobs and Ba had nothing when they met. But they've worked hard to get where they are. And now that Bobs is approaching fifty, it's time to celebrate. A secret. The couple go to the Caribbean. But what was meant to be a celebration turns into a disaster. Bobs is clearly hiding something band Ba fears the worst. A marriage on the line. Has Bobs found a younger woman? As the gossip starts at the golf club and their children stop calling, Ba's life is turned upside down. Will their marriage survive?

... if you're a fan of Alan Bennett, Mike Leigh or Victoria Wood you're in for a treat. Quirky English humour and tolerance at its best.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOTALLY FANTASTIC 12 April 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This book is unputdownable. When will it be a film? The characters are so real you can feel them, and Laurie Graham's style is unique. Truly one of the best reads in a long time. I never wanted it to end.

One of the funniest books I've read in years. A real, laugh-out-loud delight. Laurie Graham is a rarity in being a very clever, funny author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable. quick read.
Read this in one sitting. Warm characters that I cared about and funny as well. Could imagine it as a film or play staring Alison Steadman.
