I've seen quite a few live DVDs in my time and i'm inevitably disappointed, they never seem to capture the energy of a live show. From the opening strains of Good Day, this DVD is different, a combination of facinating (but not annoying or intrusive) camera angles and editing techniques captures the energy and excitement of a Dresden Dolls live performance - which is, to say the least, a unique experience. The show includes most highlights from their debut cd (Good Day, Missed Me, Perfect Fit, Bad Habit, Half Jack, Girl Anachronism, Truce and Coin Operated Boy) as well as a track from their 'only sold at shows' live cd (Christopher Lydon) and two inspired covers - Carol King's Pierre and Black Sabath's War Pigs - which have to be seen to be believed.
The DVD also features a 'Day in the Life' documentary which details the dramas surrounding the show recorded for the DVD, a spectacular pre-show video which documents the Brigade in all its splendour (for those of you who have never seen the dolls live, the brigade is a group of performance artists, living statues, human marionettes, and bulesque acts plucked from the doll's fan base). There are also live performences of Coin operated boy and Girl Anachronism live from the Roskide Festival 2005 and video clips for those two songs.
All and all this is a spectacular dvd of a sensational duo.
