Product Description

Whatever we're searching for - more money, better health or a new relationship - our dreams hold the key. Without dreams the world would not be as it is. Did you know that Einstein's theory of relativity, the Periodic Table, Elias Howe's sewing machine and Paul McCartney's Yesterday all came from dreams? Now it's your turn to discover your dream genius!

Practicing shaman Davina Mackail draws on her substantial professional experience and her own fascinating journey (from the foothills of the Himalayas to the glacial peaks of the Andes!) to bring us this in-depth exploration of the topic, demystifying dreams without detracting from their magical potential. Brought to life with dream stories from Davina's clients, this unique study of the dream world will teach you how to interpret your dreams and exactly what techniques you need to begin creating your perfect life.

This book seems to suffer from a kind of identity crisis. Is it a book about dreams, is it a book about the tarot, is it a book about life coaching, is it a book about feng shui, or is it a book about shamanism? The Dream Whisperer is a confused and largely unoriginal mish-mash of ideas and perspectives, mainly drawn from other sources.

Much of the dream symbolism seems to be derived from Theresa Cheung's `The Element Encyclopaedia of 20,000 Dreams', which in turn draws much of its information from Dr Gillian Holloway's classic `The Complete Dream Book'.

Although it might be worth the effort to try and work through some of the author's ideas and suggestions, there are some glaring errors in the book, which call the validity of the rest of the information in the book into question. For example on page 109 in the section for using tarot cards for dream work, the author states that Myers Briggs, creator of the popular personality profiling tool, is a man. In fact, Myers-Briggs should be hyphenated because Myers-Briggs wasn't actually a man but the mother and daughter team of Katharine Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers.

The author also states that Jung created his idea of archetypes from his knowledge of the Major Arcana of the tarot. In Jung's `The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious', however, he relates that the idea of archetypes was inspired from his study of astrology and work with the I Ching.

This slapdash and superficial approach to working with dreams is one of the key reasons that any form of dream work is usually rejected and ignored by a wider audience. This is a book about ideas loosely linked to dreaming, rather than a practical or helpful guide on how to analyse or use your dreams..

Every once in a while you read a book that completely surpasses your expectations of it. The Dream Whisperer is one of those.

I have never bought a book on dream intepretation knowing that it would be full of someone else's views. This book confirms I was right not to.

I love my dreams and do pay attention to them but now I've read this book I realise they are not just a sideshow in our lives but an integral part of who we are and what we are about. They inform so much and cannot be ignored.

For creatives, scientists and entrepreneurs, they are such a rich stream of information and inspiration. They are our in built doctor too.

This is truly a gem of a book and deserves a really wide readership. Get a copy, tell your friends to get a copy.

Muddled and unhelpful 24 Aug 2011
Format:Paperback
A friend recommended that I should read "The Dream Whisperer" and so I bought it but I found it to be really muddled and unhelpful. I was really put off by all that stuff about tarot cards and the whole book seems to be a jumble of influences from different places, and not really a book about dreams.

I can't see how all this whispering stuff would help any one work out what their dreams are and how to use them. The whole "Dream Whisperer" thing seems far more about the author than actually being useful for anyone else.
