Chris d'Lacey was originally a songwriter and musician, but started writing when a friend suggested he enter a writing competition. A brilliant idea! It's great to find out the origins of one of my favourite dragons from the series. It may be written a bit "younger" than the quadrilogy (so far) but it contains all you need to know about Gruffens' early days, written in a way that young and old alike (I'm 27) will adore

These are lovely stories, children (I include adults like myself who enjoy a good story regardless of age bracket) will enjoy them. They are about clay dragons who "come to life", that has been put in parenthesis because these particular dragons have to pretend to be clay when outsiders are around. Gruffen is a guardian dragon, able to interact with his person. Read the story, it is well worth your time!

I have read Chris d' Lacey's other set of dragon series and they have been on my favourite book list. Although this book is meant for younger children, it makes me giggle each time I read it.
