Product Description

With her sapphire eyes and silken dark hair, Princess Eleanor was a bewitching beauty made for a man's pleasure.  Once a child bride, but widowed at a tender age, she swore never to marry again and took a vow of eternal chastity...until Simon de Montfort marched into England and set his smoldering dark gaze upon her, King Henry's youngest sister, the royal family's most precious jewel.  Bold, arrogant, and invincible, the towering Norman knight inspired awe in the bravest of men...and a reckless desire in Eleanor's untried heart.

From the Author

I would like to thank the readers for their generous praise.
I was absolutely thrilled to read the reviews posted by readers of THE DRAGON AND THE JEWEL. I am currently writing another medieval that tells the history of what happened where this books leaves off. Tentatively titled THE POWER AND THE GLORY.

More About the Author

I write lush and lusty historical romance. My heroes are dark, dominant, and dangerous, with a hint of the lurking bastard inside them. Then I create a heroine who is a match for them, or more than a match!
I have written over 30 novels, and am a NYTimes bestselling author. The first time I made that list with Seduced, I climbed on the roof and shouted it to the world!
I was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England and emmigrated to Canada when I was twelve. I married a Canadian and about twenty years ago we moved to St. Petersburg, Florida. I have two handsome sons, two outstanding grandsons, one beautiful granddaughter, and a perfect great-granddaughter.
The first line of my bestselling novel, The Pirate And The Pagan, defined my career: "What a beautiful cock!"

Virginia Henley is the best! I though history boring until I began reading her novels. Now I'm a history buff. The Dragon & The Jewel is the first historical romance novel I read & I quickly became hooked. I've now been to England/Scotland/Wales/Ireland twice to trace the history that she portrays in this wonderful book and her others. She really does her homework!!! The facts are accurate & the places artfully described! She's unbelievable! Standing at the entrance of the castle, you really can imagine Simon & Eleanor rushing back to Chepstow. Their "beloved Kenilworth Castle" is awesome & you can imagine their lives there thanks to the picture that Virginia paints of life & events at those times. Some people laugh at romance novels - but I challenge them to tell me what they know about world history & my knowledge leaves them in the dust - all because artists like Virginia Henley make it interesting & real for us! Thank You Virginia!

1.0 out of 5 stars dragon and the jewel 29 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Not a bad story but historical details factually inaccurate which spoiled it for me. But enjoyable if you just want a medieval raunchy romp.

I love medieval historical type novels and this story by Virginia Henley was written beautifully. Simon de Montfort and Eleanor were each very passionate with their own ideas about justice and commitment. Eleanor does find her soulmate in Simon and he in her. I wish the rest of their story could have been as wonderful. Despite that fact, I am looking forward to reading the sequel to their story.

This is definitely a keeper. A wonderful story with the history of the times brought to life superbly. The hero and heroine are both great characters and sparks fly between them. Would recommend this book to any lover of historical romance.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 7 Mar 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
After reading 'Falcon and Flower' and 'Pirate and Pagan', I was quite disappointed in 'Dragon and Jewel'. The beginning did not captivate me as others. I was disappointed in the spoiled and coveted Eleanor being a manipulative child - coveting a man old enough to be her father (usually it is the other way around). In actuality, Simon was too good for Eleanor! I usually construct a more literal review of the romance novels that I've read, however, this one doesn't deserve enough of my time to pen a more flattering review.

The story of the child bride blooming into the beautiful and intelligent wife of William was interesting, but her transformation into the willful, jealous and shallow Countess of Leicester is near painful. Some of her antics are reminiscent of a bad "I Love Lucy" episode. Other characters are very one dimensional and uninteresting.

A wonderfully written story, lovable characters and does anybody write steamier sex scenes than Ms.Henley? I doubt it. What a wonderful storyteller!! Ms.Henley is certainly a "jewel" to the romance industry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Virginia Henley Rules! 30 Oct 1998

Format:Mass Market Paperback
I loved this book. Ms. Henley is definately one of my favorite authors if not my very favorite. Her men are the ULTIMATE and Simon De Montfort is no exception! The only thing I think would have made this book better would have been if eleanor had deeper feelings for Rickard De Burgh. Ms. Henley if you are out there, a novel about him would be absolutely delicious!!!
