Book Description

There wasn’t anything special about Ivan. He didn’t train to be a knight, learn spells or know anything about the ancient art of healing. He took care of the dogs and slept in the kennels.

Then a knight came to Belgorod Holding, a warrior that none dared face. The knight had hidden magic, brutal henchmen and the secret aid of a witch. With a letter from the king, he also had the right to hire farmers to help him search the forest for old treasure.

That treasure was a scourge and a plague to the world. In it laid one of the Dark Gods and several of the evilest weapons ever forged. Ivan wasn’t anything special, but he had his dogs and he had his heart, and he would do everything he could to save his family and friends from the ancient Lord of Bats.

3.0 out of 5 stars good story but... 25 Mar. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An intriguing mystery building up to an exciting climax, but leaving many things unresolved at the end. Maybe that's because there's a sequel to come? Let's hope so; the story cries out for one, particularly to know what happens to the central character, Ivan. I'd give the story more stars than I have but for its many distracting grammatical errors; please, Vaughn, get yourself an editor! The story deserves better.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Realm Begins To Unfold... 28 Sept. 2011

I found Dragon Horn after read another title by Mr. Heppner (Death Knight)and although the story starts a bit slow it's worth the wait to see the full arch of this tale. The land of Elban and several of the beasts from Dragon Horn were mentioned in Death Knight, but this story takes a different path and weaves it's way to a fascinating conclusion. After reading over a dozen of Mr. Heppner's books now, he has become one of my very favorite authors! This story leads you on a journey of self discovery for the main character and has a great supporting cast. Read on brave souls...Heppner has created another masterful work! If you like this book, consider reading Death Knight, The Lost Civilizations (Books 1-3) and of course The EPIC... Doomstar Series with Marten Kluge. Heppner Rocks!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Dragon Horn 13 Aug. 2011

I've read some of the author's other works, and his normal method is to throw you into action almost at the first page, so the tone of this was a little different. As a previous reviewer noted, it's a bit slow starting, but that appears to be the overall storytelling method. Starting with a little bit of mystery, then an insidious undercurrent of eeriness develops, all building until the resolution.

There is another book by the author, Death Knight, which uses some of the same deities and seemingly similar monsters, but it's much a darker tale. Makes me wonder if this is part of an overall world-building project.

5.0 out of 5 stars another exciting book by mister Heppner 25 Aug. 2011

as soon as I found this new title by mister Heppner in Amazon's list I bought it and started reading. this was again a pleasant surprize. the "grammar errors" commented upon by one of the reviewers are in my opinion more caused by the fact, that the book can also be listened to and the english language has a lot of words that sound alike but have different spelling. but this did not spoil the fun of reading a story well told by a wonderful narrator. I am looking forward to the next title in this new series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read 28 Mar. 2012

I very much enjoyed this book and immediately bought another one by the same author. The characters were fascinating, and made me want to know more about their lives after these adventures. I seriously hope that Mr. Heppner will return to this tale, and continue their stories. There's so much more to tell about their future lives! Kudos sir, and I'll be watching for the next installment. Don't let us down. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story after a rough start 27 July 2011

At first I wasn't keen on the start because the style seemed a bit juvenile (references to "brute"), but it got better, although it took quite a while before we found out how Alaric was the link to the past. The other fault with the text is the need for grammatical editing.

Overall, aside from the beginning and the grammar errors it was a good story and made you curious to know what else will happen.
