Book Description

‘We all have our stories to tell. Some of us live long enough to tell many of them. This is Jemima's first and last and because of that so important to all of us who read it now. This is her life.’ Michael Morpurgo

'I think it’s the most beautiful, touching, heart-breaking book.' Jacqueline Wilson

'This Diary belongs to Jemima Elizabeth Layzell If I were a Fairy I’d be called Lizzy Stardust'. So begins the private diary of a Somerset ten-year-old whose secret wish was for ‘somebody to really, really like me for who I am’. Jemima died in March 2012 and her diary is about real people and real situations. This book contains her innermost thoughts as she grew into a teenager. It shows that dreams can come true, even after death. Jemima was an unwitting heroine, leaving a powerful legacy: she willingly chose to donate her organs after her death, which have helped to save a staggering eight people’s lives.

The kindle version is without illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A poignant and touching book 2 Jun. 2013
By Bagpuss
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It is a rare privilege to garner the insight of youth and this book is a humbling reminder to us all that adults can learn so much from the opinions, hopes and fears of children. I am grateful for the opportunity to have read this book.

This is a poignant and touching book from a thoughtful and talented girl who must be missed very much by family and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to start, then difficult to stop reading 3 Jun. 2013
By Mster
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I found it so hard to start this book because of the sad story surrounding it, but once opened I couldn't put it down until I had finished it. A very enjoyable read - truly remarkable that an author so young could write so 'cleverly' about her reflections of life. Her parents and sister must be so proud.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love and Loss 16 Jun. 2013
By D. Lye
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An extraordinarily moving collection of extracts from the secret diary of Jemima Layzell, an aspiring writer, whose life was tragically cut short at the age of just 13. This book both opens a window into the world of today's young girls in general, and more particularly paints a vivid portrait of Jemima herself. As a secret diary should be, it is searingly honest. But it's also affecting, moving, sometimes sad, and sometimes very funny and joyful indeed. I finished the book with both profound sympathy for her family and friends, and a deep sense of sadness that Jemima lost the chance to make an impact on the wider world, as she surely would have done.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Draft: The Diary of Jemima Elizabeth Layzell 14 Jun. 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It's not often that you can get inside the head of a teenage girl and understand her thoughts, hopes and dreams. This moving book is difficult to put down once you start and shows how cruel life can be for such a talented young life to be cut short and taken away from her family and friends. A real talent and this book realises her dream of becoming a published author. Congratulations to her family to be so brave to share her story. The Draft: This is the diary of Jemima Elizabeth Layzell
