Well, the cormorants in Dennis Wild's new book are fascinating, or rather, their fate at the hands of sports fishermen and catfish growers is fascinating. Mr. Wild has done a staggering amount of research for this book and he offers an even handed view of a species of predator who has been too successful since the banning of DDT. The cormorant is a fish eater and as their ranks have expanded they are being labeled pests by people who also eat fish and depend on fish for their livelihood...but that is not the whole story. The book is written for the layperson....in that there is a narrative to carry along the non-biologist. I certainly would recommend this to the general public and those who care about our planet.
