This publication appealed to me ever since I heard about it. I have lived in Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire, and always loved the local dilect in its many forms of word and song. I purchased copies for similarly interested friends. It takes time to read and interpret the language and words even if you can speak or understand the dialect. As the author suggests, depending on what area the reader is familiar with, another 'doric' word or meaning known to the reader and speaker can be substituted. All in all, this is an outstanding piece of 'doric' literature and beautifully crafted. It brings 'hame' the Word to me and other loons and quines. I would have liked slightly bigger print, but then I have to wear my specs to read anything nowadays.
