It's October AD 79. The arrival of a ragged man at the Geminus household sets in motion a series of events which take Flavia and her three friends to an opulent villa by the sea at Laurentum, a few miles south of Ostia. The month is October, the year AD 79. Flavia Gemina the sea captain's daughter and her friends Jonathan, Lupus and Nubia are at home in Ostia when the arrival of a ragged man shocks them all. To her horror, Flavia learns that her family is in danger of losing everything they own. Events take Flavia and her friends to an opulent seaside villa a few miles south of Ostia. When they discover a sunken wreck just off the coast, it seems to be the answer to all their problems. But someone else is after the treasure, too. As they try to recover it, they solve the terrible mystery of Lupus's past. Caroline Lawrence is American. She grew up in California and came to England when she won a scholarship to Cambridge to study Classical Archaeology, which she followed with a degree in Hebrew and Jewish studies at the University of London. She lives by the river in London with her husband, a graphic designer. The Dolphins of Laurentum is the fifth of the Roman Mysteries, following The Thieves of Ostia, The Secrets of Vesuvius, The Pirates of Pompeii and The Assassins of Rome.
