Product Description

Paul Owens, founder of 'Raise With Praise, Inc.' and a certified evaluator for the Delta Society's Animal Assisted Therapy Program, has written a strong introduction to dog training base upon rewarding "successive approximations" of correct behavior.

Gone are the leash "pop" and harsher corrections of earlier obedience methods. Nonviolent dog training shapes appropriate behavior with rewards such as food and games. Incorrect behavior is punished by ignoring the dog and by verbal cues.

There are chapters on clicker training, target stick training, and training gear, such as collars and leashes; the nine ingredients of canine optimum health (diet, play, socialization, quiet time, exercise, employment, rest, training, and healthcare); and human-canine communication.

I buy a lot of dog books but this one is the BEST, actually I was looking indoors this morning for it because I'm going to give training tips to a puppy class tonight and I want to recommend this book. I first brought this book because I wanted to find non violent tips for training my two German Shepherds, this book was great I still refer to it. Its got tips from basic puppy/dog training right upto problem solving for the more difficult situations.

Very good book. Have refered to it several times with each of my four legged companions. I have 3 dogs now. The last one an abanded female huskey mix. The woman who owned her tossed her out (literately) due to the fact she dug up her garden. She would leave the poor thing alone in the yard for weeks at a time. The puppy is now only 5 months old . With following this book I have won her trust with humans again. She is very eager to please and enjoys life again. Plus this books helps us as pack leaders/trainers to keep things in mind like our breathing, our motivation, and closing the communication gap.
