I first learned about John Dodge 'The Dodger' from Paul Brickhill's "The Great Escape". A book review in The Telegraph lead me to purchase the book. It is a very well researched volume about this remarkable man, who must have had at least eighteen lives, dodging death on so many occasions. His family and wider circle, not to mention his personality, opened doors to him all his life until his death in his early sixties. A book well worth the money.

A book that more than tells the story of the film through the eyes and experiences of one of the few. An insight into his fellow comrades and indeed their captors. Excellent reading.

What an interesting character - and what an adventurous life he led. Very well written more like a novel than a biography.

If you enjoy biographies and tales of courage and character you will love this excellently researched true life story about an unsung hero of two World Wars, Johnny Biggelow Dodge, whose survival of the Great Escape was just one of many fantastic adventures - but who had even heard of him?
