Product Description

Product Description

Having forged their own unique path for over two decades, alternative American rockers Deftones remain one of the most daring and innovative bands around. First formed in 1988 by Californian school friends, the five-piece have released seven albums that have flirted with the many metal sub-genres that have emerged during their career, whilst remaining steadfastly original throughout. Deftones cemented their burgeoning reputation in 2000 with the quite exceptional album White Pony and have not looked back since, as the band's sound and fan base have both continued to grow exponentially. Deftones The Document is an enlightening and entertaining reflection on their incredible journey to date, leaving no stone unturned. Featuring a DVD documentary that traces their rise to the top, together with a spoken word biography covering the highs and lows that have accompanied their career, this set is sure to delight fans everywhere. Housed in a deluxe slipcase and complete with rare interviews, insight from those who know them best, seldom seen photographs and fully illustrated booklets, it is set to become an essential part of any Deftones collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good 2 for 1 Set 19 May 2013
Format:Audio CD
A good price for a DVD documentary on Deftones and an extra CD interview / biog - all packaged very nicely. If you like these type of products this is a good one - if you only want the Deftones' music and nothing else then you're probably better to give this a miss though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought As A Present - Well Received 7 Sep 2013
By KJ - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I picked this set up as a present for a favorite nephew - reported back that it's enjoyable and contains otherwise unheard material. Sounds like fans of Deftones ( as said nephew indeed is)will enjoy this DVD/CD set. Nicely packaged too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much Enjoyed 19 May 2013
By Vince Hurley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I really like this release. The DVD disc is a great overview of Deftones career which tells their story better than anything else Ive seen about them. The interview and biography CD is a good companion piece and warrants repeated listens. Nicely packaged too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing 8 May 2013
By ravenh8r - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
First off, I am a huge Deftones fan. But this 2 disc set is very disappointing. Most of the two discs are narration, VERY little audio from actual band members. I was expecting the DVD portion to be like the DVD from B-sides and rarities. If I could return an opened purchase I would.

2.0 out of 5 stars Huge fan of the band, not a fan of this documentary. 26 Jan 2014
By gijanedoe - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Red flags to note:
-This documentary was not approved by the Deftones
-No music featured in the documentary is from the Deftones
-Even though this set was released in 2013, the DVD is actually from 2003 and the audio CD is from 2004, so you'll only be getting info up to their self-titled album.

On the DVD:

Immediately, I did not like the narrator. The company that produced these discs is called Chrome Dreams, who are based out of the UK, so the narrator was a British female. Her voice didn't fit for this doc at all. The second thing I disliked was the break up of the documentary in "chapters" where it would keep interrupting to show you the chapter title, with some awful guitar distortion in the background that sounded like it was mocking the Deftones sound. Very amateur and looks like something I could make at home on my DVD burner. Thirdly, any music included in the documentary seemed to be from some local band who is in no way similar to the Deftones, but hey, they needed SOME music to put in there, so they just threw that in. The way this was done reminded me of an old VH1 documentary from the early '90's and the person who put it together was on their first day of the job. Any facts that I learned from watching this documentary were not worth the price I paid. I LOVE the Deftones and I was very excited to purchase this set as I am a hardcore fan, however, even for us hardcore fans I have some advice: wait for a Deftones approved, REAL documentary.

On the CD:

I have yet to listen to the audio interviews, but they are from the same UK based company and, again, were not approved by the Deftones for release, so I am not expecting much. Anyone who has already purchased the audio disc is going to be upset if they purchase this set, as it has the same CD. The CD is called "Maximum Deftones" by the way.
