Holiness-Without Which No Man Shall See The Lord. 21 Oct 2008
By J. Adrian - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I believe 'The Doctrine Of Sanctification'is among the most valuable of A.W.Pink's writings. That for several reasons;the first being the importance that the Scriptures give to this teaching(as the author notes in the introduction that the words holy and sanctified are used hundreds of times in the Word of God)secondly because there is so much errant teaching on sacntification(both in this generation and throughout the history of the Church))lastly because it is not only among the finest overall treatments on this doctrine but is also among the most comprehensive works(looking at the subject from every angle)that has ever been published.
There is an unction to all of Pink's written ministry but especially when he writes on practical christian theology as can be seen in this comment on p.25"they would be free from the punishments due to sin but they love their lusts so well that they hate holiness and desire not to be saved from the service of sin.The way to oppose this pernicious delusion is not to deny,as some do,that trusting on Christ for salvation is a saving act of faith, but rather to show that none do or can trust on Christ for true salvation except they trust on Him for holiness, neither do they heartily desire true salvation,if they do not desire to be made holy and righteous in their hearts and lives."
The author rightly believed that no man or body of men had a monopoly on truth.Pink profited from the writings of a number of men(from a wide divergence of thought on this doctrine)which adds strength to this doctrinal treatise.
Another thing that is so special about Pink's written ministry is that it is always clear that the Scriptures are the final word. For example, though he highly esteemed the writings of the Puritans and was greatly influenced by them,he would not hesitate to differ with them when he was convinced that the Bible did.In chapters eight and nine Mr.Pink points to a couple of significant differences that he had with the Puritans in the area of sacntification. One being his definition of 'progressive sacntification'.The other being the absence in the writings of the puritans on the objective aspect of sacntification that believers have in Christ. He agreed with the Puritan perspective (for the most part)on the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of Christians but the very important teaching that believers are objectively sanctified (similar to being justified)because of their union with Christ was overlooked by the Puritans.
The usefulness of this priceless work(or lack thereof, due to its limited availability at times)remains a mystery to me.The ministry of Mount Zion Bible Church(Chapel Library)has been reprinting and distributing Pink's 'Studies In The Scriptures'beginning with 1932(from the early nineties to the present). The articles on 'The Doctrine Of Sanctification' originally appeared in 'The Studies' from 1935 through 1937.They first were published in book form by Baker Books in 1955(three years after Pink's death). In 1975 Reiner Publications had the book in print ahnd it was distributed by Gospel Missions in Choteau Montana for a number of years.Christian Focus Publications has had two printings of the book first in 1998 and most recently in 2006.
The Church of Christ is indebted to these publishers for keeping this immensely important work in print.

Comprehensive, balanced explanation of Sanctification 24 May 2013
By Larry Simmons - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Received enormous comfort from the book, as it finally solidified for me that Jesus is our sanctification. I am still obliged to strive for holiness, but not by my own strength; rather I am to look to the fullness that is in Christ Jesus. My only true growth is to be seen in an increasing awareness that my old nature is alive and well, and will continue to undermine my efforts as long as I am on the earth. But thanks be to God, Christ has become our righteousness, our sanctification, and our redemption.

More than an Introduction 21 Mar 2013
By Michael Coleman - Published on Amazon.com

This is a excellent classic in Christian Theology. It is excellent because Pink gives a thoroughly biblical basis for sanctification. One can come away with plenty of scriptural source material for further study. This book is great for the intermediate student of the word of God.

Head-over-heels in love 20 Sep 2014
By Eduardo Rodriguez - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I see that the existing reviews on this work already address what I wanted to share with new buyers. But one nugget I did receive from my reading was the effect HIS work has on me. But first allow me to share one experience, which I am sure I am not the only one, that helped me understand HIS work in me personally. When I met my first girlfriend back in 1970 I could not believe she could possibly see something attractive in me. She was breath-taking and had a beautiful way with her expressions. What on earth did she see in me I will never know. I truly believe that is why I was head-over-heels for her--I felt unworthy of her love. I knew she did not need me but I felt I just could not live without her. Coming back to this review, I can not help but think on the first epistle of John 4:19. God the Holy Spirit works on giving me a proper perspective as to my worthiness to receive any favor from the Author of my salvation. Knowing this how can I not fall deeply in love with the One who loved me first. My wish is for you to find your true love in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
