Book Description

In the latest novel in the national bestselling Domestic Diva Mystery series, it’s beginning to look a lot like murder…

The holidays are domestic diva Sophie Winston’s favorite time of year. But this season, there seem to be more mishaps than mistletoe. First, Horace Scroggins tumbles from a balcony during his office Christmas party. Then, Sophie’s neighbor takes a fall from his ladder while decorating his roof with lights. But it’s the cookie swap that really starts her wondering who’s naughty or nice….

Sophie arrives at the annual event with high spirits and thirteen dozen chocolate-drizzled gingersnaps. But when an argument erupts and a murder ensues, it becomes clear that the recent string of events is anything but accidental. Now Sophie has to make a list of suspects…and check it twice!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT MYSTERY AND COOKIE RECIPES! 9 Aug. 2014
    By Lori
    Format:Kindle Edition
I love all of the Diva mysteries and this one is great! The mystery was so entangled, there was no way to figure out who the murderer was until it was revealed. I love that! The diva books are rich in characters as well as food and you can always find recipes at the end of the mysteries. This one has cookies. Yum!

The characters are fun and there is enough plot and twists that you don't get bored or easily predict whodunnit. I think the book is also well written, I very much enjoy her style of writing. I'd recommend the entire series, not just this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas in June! 4 Jun. 2014

I have loved this series from the beginning and this one was great. There were multiple mysteries to solve as well as a heartwarming story of family, lost loves and second chances. Wolf was back in this story as well as all the other old favorites. Including Natasha who you just love to hate. I have no idea why Mars stays with her. Sophie's love life is still up in the air: Wolf, Mars, or Alex? I don't think the right man for her has been introduced yet.
This was a great story that I couldn't stop reading. Buy it. Read it. You won't be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Copy the first page to keep things straight! 13 Jun. 2014
By Marnie Oakley - Published on Amazon.com

At the beginning of the book is 'Mars's List'...please copy or write it down so you can make notes and keep tabs on who is who and how they are all connected. It gets a little confusing.

I have read all the Diva books. I like them overall, something lite to read to relax with at the end of the day. I also enjoy the recipes at the end and how they keep the main group from book to book (Bernie, Nina, etc).

The one negative overall with the series...Is that Sophie ALWAYS has so much food on hand for when people come over. Honestly, when was the last time you had such a variety and quantity of food?

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Tis The Season To Be Murdered 4 Jun. 2014
    By F. Yoder - Published on Amazon.com
    Format:Kindle Edition
The Diva Wraps It Up is the eight book in the A Domestic Diva Mystery series.

The holidays are quickly approaching for the residents of Old Town in Alexandria. The men are busy trying to outdo each other decorating there home with Christmas lights, trying to win the Clark Griswald House Decorating Contest.

Meanwhile, Sophie is attending Horace Scroggins Christmas Party. As he goes onto the balcony to watch the carolers, the railing breaks and he falls to the ground. As he is being readied to be transported to the hospital he asks Sophie to get an envelope out of desk drawer and not let his wife see it. Shortly after this, Mrs. Scroggins asks everyone to leave and locks the building. A day or two later she confides in Sophie that someone is trying drive her crazy or kill her. Sophie soon finds that it is an undated love letter and only singed as The Brown Eyed Girl.

What would the Holidays be without a cookie swap? Gwen Babineaux is hosting it and during some games she takes some embarrassing pictures of Natasha and posts them on Facebook. The next day, Gwen's body is found in Natasha's carriage house, wrapped in Natasha's personally made Christmas paper. Of course she becomes a person of interest, but Gwen had a way of rubbing people the wrong way, so there are others that come under suspicion. Gwen's husband, Baxter, has arrived in town and is upset with visitation of her children, maybe she took the ultimate step. Baxter's brother, Elvin, and his girlfriend, Sugar, arrived for a surprise visit and Sugar has some shocking information to share. In addition, Sugar is a flirt and maybe she has flirted with the wrong person and Gwen saw it.

Most all the characters are back for the Holiday season in this most interesting story.

Wonderful sounding recipes and helpful Holiday hints are included.

Looking forward to the next book in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best of the series 21 Jan. 2015

I really enjoy the series & the characters, but felt that this installment in the series was lacking. Sophie is an events-planner, yet seems to have no events to plan (outside of the opening scene), especially in the weeks leading up to Christmas in Old Town Alexandria, VA (a wealthy historical neighborhood). Presumably, Sophie does her own cooking/baking for her catering service - even though she's never remodeled her kitchen and never mentions high-end, high-capacity cooking, preparation & storage facilities required by her business. Conceivably, she may be using a rented commercial kitchen, but I believe that other books discussed her use of her own kitchen (??) I don't mean to dwell on this issue, but it's difficult to believe that she has the necessary facilities & licensure required by the state to maintain a for-profit business. (Not to mention the health department's position on dogs & cats roaming through a kitchen used for commercial purposes). A historical row house couldn't possibly have the space to store her enormous collection of linens & china used for impromptu family/friend gatherings. Or her vast collections of winter coats & outerwear - I believe she described 4 or 5 in this novel alone. In fact, quite a lot of typeset was dedicated to what Sophie was wearing, which contributed nothing to an already dragging story line. And when does she grocery shop for all that food? (or perform any other household chores?)

There were plenty of characters, each of whom had any combination of motive, means or opportunity to commit the crime. I appreciated the red herrings, as they do require the reader to think about the series of events and small details. The story really dragged though. The characters were plenty - each was very complex, and some had interrelations that were difficult to follow.

At about the 2/3 point, I really wanted the book to end. In fact, I actually hoped that Natasha would begin to make one of her trademark over the top appearances, but even she didn't have her usual level of energy or sharp barbed responses. The last 20 pages took everything into high gear - way too rushed, with far too many unlikely events converging. Excluding the family who owned the toy store, no one seems to work in the story. I don't even know why Sophie is spending so much time solving a mystery that doesn't really affect her. Does she really care that much about Natasha - the woman who broke up her marriage to Mars? Unfortunately, it wound up being a slow, draggy, rambling story line (where I really lost interest, but continued reading only because paperbacks are around 8 bucks apiece anymore, and I felt that I owed it to myself to see if things picked up a bit). It was as if the editor determined that the first 260 pages were fine, and gave the author instructions to put an ending on it and move on.

All in all, I really like the series, but just feel that this one was sloppy and difficult to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ms. Davis Does It Again! 22 Jun. 2014
    By Debb23 - Published on Amazon.com

I have loved this series from the start and I haven't been disappointed yet. I love Sophie, a strong character, someone that I would love to know. Most of the usual favorites are back but if you haven't read the series yet, I don't think that you will have any problem following it. The questions and answers and the start of every chapter are one of my personal favorites. The mystery in this book..wow. It had more twists, turns and surprises that kept me guessing until the end. I eagerly await the next in this series.
