Book Description

4 July 2011
Between 2004 and 2007, James Mollison attended pop concerts across Europe and the USA with a mobile photography studio, inviting fans of each music star or band to pose for their portrait outside the gig. He subsequently combined portraits of eight to ten fans for each performer into a single line up, making a single panoramic image in each case. With a total over 500 individual portraits in 62 panoramic images, The Disciples is an original, sharp and highly entertaining take on contemporary music culture and the tribalism invoked by popular music stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing photographs 11 Nov 2009
I came across this book by accident and had to buy it. I would love to do a project like this with a focus on rock music (and with more smiling faces).
This books is a collection of photographs capturing music fans following (and sometimes cloning) their idols at concerts.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best coffee table book in the world-ever 25 Sep 2008
By C. Webb
I waited for the publication of this book for months following a preview in the Mail on Sunday and I was not disappointed. The photographs are amazing and the stories of how James and his assistants captured the look and mood of the audience was riveting.

At the next concert I attend (Flogging Molly, B'Ham Academy Nov 2008) I will have one eye on the audience as well as one on the band. I wonder if James M will be there?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product but disappointing packaging 14 Feb 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I bought this as a gift for a photography student. When it arrived I was initially pleased with the fact that the book was shrink-wrapped in a plastic cover, which as it was for a gift was good. However, I then saw that there was a sticker on the rear outside cover of the book displaying the price in UK £ and US $. So, I had to remove the book from the shrink wrap in order to take the price sticker off, and even though I was extremely careful in trying to take the sticker off, some of the paper fine cover of the book came away with it - extremely disappointing, particularly as it was for a gift. Why have a price sticker on at all? and certainly not inside the shrink-wrap. I raised my disappointment when I received an e-mail asking me to comment on packaging, but never had any response. If it wasn't for the fact that there was no time left to send the item back and get a replacement in time for the birthday, I would have returned it. All that said, the recipient absolutely loves the book.
