I chose this rating because this book is the best, easy to follow guide to starting the 5:2 Diet that I've come across. I've read several newspaper and magazine articles and looked at several sources on-line, and was keen to try the 5:2 Diet, but was unsure of the best way to go about it. I also needed ideas for how to manage a day's food on 500 calories, without feel starving and unsatisfied. Jacqueline Whitehart obviously saw right away that these are questions that anyone wishing to start the diet would ask. And I am delighted that she has provided all the answers! She suggests different (and flexible) ways to tackle the 'Fast' day to suit your lifestyle' and also gives daily menus, calorie counted, to get you started. But that's not all. She then provides loads of recipes - all good tasty food - to keep you on track without getting bored with the same old same old. I call that brilliant, and give her 10 out of 10! (she also gives separate guidelines for men, who are allowed 600 cals.)

I would (and will) recommend this book to everyone interested in the diet - unreservedly.

I bought this alongside Kate Harrison's book. Kate's book was really inspirational, and then this one has all the recipes I've needed to keep those fasting days interesting. Simple, clear and loads of variety.

Having recently started on the 5:2 diet (or Intermittent Fasting) I bought this book in order to vary my food on my fasting days.

The book starts with some information about the diet, some Q&A's and some menu suggestions. Then it is over to the recipes.

The recipes are quite varied and do give me inspiration.My main gripe with these recipes though is that they only give the total amount of calories, there's no breakdown per ingredient. To me that is something that is a clear miss.

I would prefer it if each ingredient were listed with its calorie content, it would make substitutions easier for example.

All in all a decent book that could have been made quite a bit better with some small improvements, like the calorie content per ingredient.

This book is fantastic in it's simplicity.
Yes you could buy a bigger more scientific book, but if you just want the simple facts at your finger tips and a selection of recipes then this book is money well spent.
I'm on a very limited diet due to stomach problems, I'd been trying to stick to a diet plan of 1400 cals a day, I exercise daily and consider myself a healthy eater. But loosing weight was such a challenge.
Following the simple steps in this book I'm actually loosing weight. The first day I lost 300g and am averaging 250g each time I have a diet day and the weight stays off, the days in between I'm eating more than I used to.
After years of struggling, this diet plan for me is quite amazing.

I heard about this diet from a friend and thought hey I could do that! So I found this book and decided to try it after Xmas. I was apprehensive when I saw what I could eat on my fast days, but now I have completed my first week I have found it so much easier than I anticipated. And I have lost 5lbs already! what an incentive to carry on and also that you only have to do one diet day at a time. So it is definitely different to and easier than other diets out there.

I had been finding it hard to make interesting meals on my fasting days, particularly as my husband flatly refuses to join me on the diet :( This book has loads of recipes that I can cook for both of us, and it's really added variety to the fast days. I'm finding it invaluable
