Product Description

Product Description

Without language, we cannot think. Most of us wouldn't have a problem with that because these days nobody has a problem. We have issues, possibly opportunities. If we are unlucky, we may face challenges. Business, politics, self-help, marketing, the media, statistics, science and local government are all rich sources of bullshit that author Nick Webb has scrupulously mined for this indispensable guide to navigating this all pervasive and tricksy linguistic phenomenon. Much bullshit is merely absurd or fun. An apartment advertised as a studio flat is so cramped that nobody has sex in it without putting a limb out of the window. But there is also capital 'B', weapons-grade Bullshit that sneaks into our minds like heavy metal pollution. Moral content and personal responsibility have drained out of such Bullshit - just one of the reasons why it is so appealing to shifty politicians and senior executives in expensive suits. Serious and funny, angry and shamelessly opinionated, "The Dictionary of Bullshit" cuts to the chase of corporate speak.

About the Author

The author describes his former life in corporate publishing as like paddling a small raft across an ocean of bullshit. He lives in London N16 and has written a biography of Douglas Adams.

Outstanding 19 Dec 2005
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This book should be required reading for every business guru, chief executive, management consultant and investment banker - or if not for them, at least for the people who are so often on the receiving end of their collective 'wisdom'. It's a brilliant debunking of all the catch-phrases, jargon, trendy consultant-speak and nonsense that have invaded our lives and are in danger of running riot. A large dose of this healthily refreshing book would be good news for politicians, journalists and business leaders alike - it will make you laugh and help restore your sanity at the same time.

Format:Hardcover
Nick Webb has taken on a strange enough 'mission' to show the simple meanings some strange sounding terms carry in the business, political and legal world. He has certainly proved that he's had a fair share of experience with every kind of crappy or misleading words and how people use them to convince or dazzle corporate employees, 'customers' or the public in general.

Webb has taken a view of erroneous humoristic criticism on today's developed world and there are a few serious points he constantly stresses through meanings of different words.

Very good little book 25 July 2006
By Book Luvah - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I gave this book to a word-loving, bs-hating editor friend of mine, and she loves it. It became quite the hit around our office. Very witty, very sarcastic, very cool!
