I'm a 12/13 year old girl, and bought this book becuase I loved Penelope Bush's other book, Alice in time. The diary of a lottery winner's daughter is just as good, but as it is written from the perspective of a year 7 (instead of a year 10) , it is slightly less adult.
Charlotte, the girl who writes the diary, lives on a council estate with her mum, dad, sister and brother. In the summer holidays they go on holiday to (where else?) the seaside. On the pier a creepy mechanical gypsy fortune teller gives her a piece of paper telling her to be careful what she wishes for. A couple of hours later her mum wins the lottery...
It's not a particularly challenging read (I read for about 3 hours solidly and finished it within a morning), and the idea of money not being everything is slightly cliched, but nevertheless, this is a thoroughly entertaining, gripping and fun read! Penelope Bush is a wonderful author!
