Do not approach The Devils Notebook expecting an occult tome with great Satanic insight for it will only disappoint you.

I actually love LaVeys writing style in this book but it takes a great deal of reading with a large pinch of salt. It is simply a collection of observances by the deceased Satanist which if you read with an open heart allows a great deal of the unique flavour of the left-hand path to flood in. I'd recommend to any free thinker but for those with a deeper esoteric bent then I'd steer you towards LaVeys 'Satan Speaks' as the better colection of essays.

a valuable learning guide for people that want to learn more about a beleaf out side of the every day main stream. it is more useful as learning guide with satans bibal and satanic rituals.i am not a satanist just some one who was interested in what it was all about it is quite an eye opener, all in all a good book. Judge for yourself 2 April 2000

Unfortunately, most people do not understand Anton La Vey, yet choose to read books stemming from the Satanic Bible. I urge anyone who wants to know tabout the basics of Satanism to read the Bible first. I also believe that Dr La Vey used second-hand views and methods because they have been researched, used and worked; perhaps he supports these teachings and is therefor sharing them. This is a difficult subject to fully understand and justify, and so it is advisable to educate ones self on the basic philosophy before leaping for the most judgeable works. A wonderful book, and a very intelligent author. A must for any Satanists.
