Book Description

Packed with nerve-jangling suspense and moody atmosphere, and featuring two of the most appealing heroes in modern crime fiction, The Devil's Edge is a thriller to rival the very best of Peter Robinson and Peter James

Product Description

In the heart of summer, in the dead of night, something wakes you. The house is quiet. The children are sleeping. The kitchen is empty.

Except for the body on the floor.

A series of brutal home invasions is terrorizing the Peak District. Until now, the burglars haven't left a clue. This time, they've left a corpse. But as the death toll rises, two intrepid cops begin to suspect that the robberies - and the murders - are not what they seem. Beneath the scorching summer sun, a dangerous game is in play . . . and a merciless killer is hiding in plain sight.

Packed with twists, suspense, and danger, The Devil's Edge is a gripping thriller to rival the very best of Peter Robinson and Peter James.

If a reader understands that the part of Derbyshire Ben works in is fictional, and can cope with the consequences (I can), then this book is another winner that bounds along, taking the story and the reader on an exciting adventure. I don't recognise the criticisms in the other reviewers' entries - I suppose it depends on your attitude. It was an exciting, engrossing read and can recommend it to anyone who likes this genre of fiction.

Gentle read! 26 July 2011

I have read all Stephen Booth's books & love them for their descriptive narrative. I frequently read fast paced thrillers that literally exhaust. This book, however allows you to smell the roses on the way. On the minus side I found I was left wondering quite what was going to happen to some of the characters. This book doesn't have the usual familiarity about it & I wonder if it may be a transitional book that results in a considerable change next time around.

I've enjoyed all Booth's books, but this was one of the best. It's a good one to introduce new readers to the series. The set-up is chilling: During an especially hot summer, a series of burglaries occurs, and one night they leave a body on the floor. Then it becomes apparent that the death might have another cause.... This is very twisty stuff, and ideal for anyone who likes well-plotted and sophisticated suspense novels featuring very appealing characters. Can't wait for his next book Dead and Buried.

The Devil's Edge
Devil's Edge is a fairly insular world, defined, geographically at least, by the cliff edges which surround it. This book is, in a similar way, equally circumscribed. Read more

Another winner
An excellent novel from the pen of Stephen Booth. The proposed TV series should be good, providing they get the casting right and dont use actors who are "flavour of the month"
