This was a great book ! I have enjoyed Thunderstruck and In The Garden of the Beast. The Devil in the White City followed the same style; two simultaneous stories that merged and came together. Lots of interesting historical tid bits were interspersed as an added bonus to the story. I felt as if I was on the outside looking in to the period of 1892 as the description of the social atmosphere and daily life was so vivid and told with great style and flair. I could not put this book down as every chapter built on the next and the reader was left with subtle clues as to what to look for in the following pages. Exceptionally well done and entertaining. I enjoyed the historical period described and am now reading Sin in the Second City, by Karen Abbott which complements, in some fashion, the social life of the period. The research was impressive, the detail extraordinary, and the story portrayed was so vivid that at times it could have been thought to be fiction. This was a great book !
