Review

Laura is one of the most talented chefs in the business and helped me get started when setting up my cake business. Her book is full of tasty, scrumptious and inventive recipes which I am sure will become firm family favourites. --Lorraine Pascale

Having worked for me several years ago at Le Caprice, it is good to see Laura has escaped from the restaurant scene and is quickly becoming the Dessert Deli queen. --Mark Hix

A fabulous mix of puddings, cakes and biscuits from the dessert queen herself. Laura's attention to detail makes each one a winner. You'll be in honeycomb heaven with desserts you'll want to dive into!! --Wendi Peters

About the Author

Laura Amos began her career at the age of 16 studying a 3 year catering course at Bournemouth & Poole College. Laura was awarded 'student of the year' and was offered an apprenticeship under Michelin starred Chef Jean-Christophe Novelli. The experience included work under Richard Guest at Maison Novelli as well work at EC1 Brasserie, Novelli W8 & Les Saveurs. Laura went on to work full time running the pastry sections at Novelli W8 & Maison Novelli.

Laura then moved to The Ivy, and within a year was promoted to Sous Pastry Chef. After 3 years in the role she became Head Pastry Chef at Le Caprice. After a couple of years, to gain further experience in product development, Laura moved to Popina, an award winning Artisan Bakery where she was appointed Head Chef.

In 2008, aged just 26 Laura began The Dessert Deli an enterprise to produce the most Luxurious Handmade Desserts for Food Lovers in London. Laura's desserts are now stocked at the prestigious Food Halls of Fortnum & Masons, Selfridges, and Whole Foods Market. Laura can often be found on her flagship market stall on Northcote Road in Clapham Junction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ingredients galore 13 Dec. 2012
By Kirsty
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This book is amazing, so much I want to make from this. The first thing I'm making is the christmas cake, however I'm finding the ingredients abit "much".....has anyone else made this cake before? It gets you to buy 1kg of raisins, 1kg of sultanas, 1kg currants and 500g of mixed peel....then when making the actual cake mix it seems to only require 1.2kg of "soaked fruit".... is it just me or does it seem a bit extreme. I will now have to make loads of other things to incorporate the rest of it or it will go to waste.
Are other recipes like this in the book? Or are the quantities more specific?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but some errors 16 Dec. 2012
By Deb
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I've tried two recipes from this book - the flapjacks which were fabulous and the christmas cake. The Christmas cake gives a really confusing list of ingredients which don't match up - another reviewer found the same. It specifies 1kg of each fruit, then when detailing the mixing of the cake says add the 1.2kg of soaked fruit when in fact if you'd followed the recipe you'd have 3.5kg of mixed fruit which would be far too much for a 9" cake. What a shame, but i'll certainly try some of the other recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Desserts to die for 25 Oct. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you love desserts then you will love this cook book. The recipes are really easy to follow with clear step by step instructions. I especially like the tips which Laura provides suggesting that you can adapt the recipes by using different flavours or makes recommendations on how something should be done. If like me you live too far away to taste Laura's hand made desserts then this is the next best thing - the only decision you have to make is what to cook first!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational Desserts 23 Oct. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the finest dessert cook book I have purchased. Nothing is complicated and ingredients readily available. This book will inspire all and at such a low price. This is the first book I have found that every recipe is uncomplicated to produce and no expensive catering equipment is required. Any budding caterer should have this book as a must to learn the tricks of the trade. If this book was used in schools more students would be inspired to cook.

I'm a big fan of Dessert Deli products and eagerly awaited this book. It is full of delicious recipes that are easy to follow and give the most perfect results. The photography makes you hungry and really helps in the preparation process as you can see what the final bake should look like. There's a great selection of traditional and contemporary baking ideas; from desserts to biscuits, cupcakes to Christmas.

A delightful book that I cannot wait to bake and eat my way through!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious classics, clearly explained 2 Dec. 2012
By Maz
Format:Hardcover
I am a keen and experienced cook, but these recipes have really added something to my repertoire! I made the lemon meringue pie for Sunday lunch, and it was declared "the best I've ever eaten" by my guests. The chocolate brownies are truly fudgy and luxurious, and the chocolate mousse is legendary. All the recipes are clearly explained and easy to follow, so if you've never made Swiss style meringue before, don't worry! The portions are very generous (which goes down well in my house!). I've sometimes had to adjust cooking times a bit, but then all ovens vary. Highly recommended as a present for anyone with a sweet tooth!
