Product Description

Product Description

Darwin’s successor to his landmark On the Origin of Species, The Descent of Man is notable for applying the naturalist’s thoughts on evolution and natural selection to human beings and speculating on our origins. Detailing his theories of sexual selection, evolutionary psychology, and evolutionary ethics, Darwin touches upon a variety of intriguing subjects, including ruminations on race, gender, and civilization. A stimulating read on the evolution of humanity’s most distinguished traits and faculties, The Descent of Man remains one of the most influential and controversial scientific treatises ever composed. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

An Abridged Edition 10 July 2010
By Thomas B. Whalen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The serious student of Darwin should be advised that the Dover version is an abridged edition. As a result, many passages have been removed. Thus, if you are looking for passages that may have been cited by other authors you may be disappointed. For the casual reader (can anyone be a casual reader of Darwin?) this edition may be just fine.

A must for anyone who wants to read Darwin's work themselves, highly recommended 18 Sep 2010
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Some books hold their place in history as legendary for their impact on society. Charles Darwin authored many of these books. "The Descent of Man" is a re-publishing of his work, with abridging and introduction from Michael Ghiselin. A follow up on "On the Origin of Species", Darwin continues to discuss the roots of humanity, sharing ancestors with apes and other primates, a claim which has earned Darwin notoriety and praise alike. "The Descent of Man" is a must for anyone who wants to read Darwin's work themselves, highly recommended.

not the full text 25 Jun 2011

I wanted the full text, not the Reader's Digest Condensed version. What are the Darwinists trying to hide by condensing and removing some text?????
