Review

A remarkable dictionary arranged creatively and rigorously by concept-terms in such a way that the distinct expertise of multiple distinguished scholars inflects each concept. -- Eleanor Kaufman, University of California, Los Angeles If the philosophy is the strata or plane for the production of concepts, this new revised Deleuze Dictionary is philosophy at its most creative: here key concepts from Deleuze's writings are illuminated and made to undertake new work, opening up new questions and new provocations. Strongly recommended both for those new to Deleuze's rich writings and to those already familiar with and excited by his profoundly original thought. -- Elizabeth Grosz, Rutgers University A remarkable dictionary arranged creatively and rigorously by concept-terms in such a way that the distinct expertise of multiple distinguished scholars inflects each concept. What recommends this dictionary -- the only one dedicated to Deleuze's complex oeuvre -- and renders it especially suitable for students of all levels is that terms are analysed with concrete reference to particular philosophical, literary or other works. -- Marios Constantinou and Maria Margaroni The connections made in The Deleuze Dictionary are particularly thought provoking and productive. -- Marios Constantinou and Maria Margaroni As an additional navigational aid, most entries bear a short list of 'connectives', suggesting bridges towards other sections ... The reader initially uses them as trampolines into intersecting areas of Deleuze's thought, but then begins to invent his/her own bouncing-off points. The ability to prompt such creativity is one of the many merits of this book. Life saver 11 Oct 2005

Weird to have a dictionary on Deleuze surely? Well, maybe, but this book is quite simply a life saver. Without it, I would have run away from Deleuze & Guattari and back to the safe shelter of theories which are not as political, not as progressive, not as challenging. This book is the product of a magnanimous, public-spirited team of scholars who have served Deleuze's legacy no end of good.

The idea of a Deleuze Dictionary might be controversial since Deleuzian concepts are never stable. This was the reason I stayed distanced from this book for a long time but could not help and bought it during my thesis. I was relieved to find that it is explanatory but not reductive. A rich selection of terms are clearly and efficiently explained with all its wideness of meaning by scholars specialised in that area of Deleuzian corpus. Highly recommended..

Deleuze presumes that being is creativity, keeping with Nietzsche's observation that the world is emotive and sensory. 'The Deleuze Dictionary' has helped me to study and write on literature in a new and more creative way, different from mimetic and structural approaches. The many entries, written by specialists, enables me to search for cross references and to find new approaches. I agree with the editor A. Parr in that this dictionary "comes to being in its use" - it produces infinite openings in your own thoughts of the work of art you are dealing with, closer to the fluxus of sensuality in the text.
