This collection mainly of 70's and 80's favourites from a band that was back then a big gun sounds today a bit dated. To be fair, Foreigner produced a few classic rock songs in the vein of "Cold As Ice", "Double Visions", "Hot Blooded", "Dirty White Boy", "Urgent" or "Juke Box Hero", but the rest of their material doesn't stand the test of time. Foreigner's own unmistakable sound is defined by Mick Jones' guitar work and Lou Gramm's vocals, the rest of the band is exchangeable. This compilation has the merit of covering Foreigner from their 70's debut to their 1995's attempt at a revival. Despite remastering and some slight improvement the sound remains muddy, rendering instruments without clear contours and overall lacking details, certainly a result of the typical stadium rock mixes of the 80's. "URGENT" in an almost acoustic version is advertised as "previously unreleased bonus track" and should better have remained that: unreleased. If you are searching for their best 80's album go for Foreigner "4".
