Product Description

CD Description

Born in Richland, Mississippi, in 1918, Elmore James didn't record until 1951 and died just 11 short years later - yet his influence was enormous. James' distinctive slide-guitar style proved even more popular than his records, influencing generations of six-string pluckers and winning disciples like Fleetwood Mac's Jeremy Spencer who modelled his entire sound and style on his idol. Featured here are 41 of Elmore's finest recordings.

This double cd set includes the complete Elmore James recordings as lead vocalist from 1951 (starting with the original recording of "DUST MY BROOM") to 1957, as well as 7 where he was a mere guitarist - 4 instrumental tracks, 2 tracks by singer Little Johnny Jones, and one with vocals by J.T.Brown. EJ wrote or co-wrote no less than 26 of the 41 tracks.
Here are the original EJ recordings of "STANDING AT THE CROSSROADS", "IT HURTS ME TOO" and "DUST MY BROOM", all of which he re-recorded between 1959 and 1963.
More great news - all 41 tracks are in recording date order!
I highly recommend this excellent, value for money, product.

Almost everything of his on here. If you like Elmore and want more, this is it. I was fooled for a while as some of the tracks did not sound like the man but after repeated listenings it was definitely him. Good value.

By C. FULLER TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
This new 2 CD compilation comprising 41 tracks is offered in chronological order. Elmore James began recording in 1951 and had an 11 year career before a heart attack cut short his life in 1963. The electric slide guitar, blues performer influenced many including Jimi Hendrix.
CD1 has recordings dating from 1951 to 1953 and CD 2 1954 to 1957. All of his biggest hits are included opening with "Dust My Broom" which was a Top 10 R&B hit in 1951. Followed by hits "I Believe" in 1952 and "It Hurts me Too" in 1957. Recording for labels such as Trumpet; Meteor; Flair; Modern and Chief this set represents all of these in a great retrospective set. The liner notes are by Michael Heatley and the compilation was produced by Tony Watts. With crisp and clear sound and attractive packaging this is a set well worth adding to your collection.
