Tammy's fans know that one (or even two) CD's cannot contain all her country classics, but this compilation is brilliant. It contains all the absolutely essential solo hits, a reasonable selection of her other country hits and a good sample of her recordings with others.
The essential solo tracks are Stand by your man, D-I-V-O-R-C-E, I don't wanna play house and Till I can make it on my own. Among the other solo tracks, my favorites include Take me to your world, Your good girl's gonna go bad, You and me, Woman to woman and Womanhood. These tracks are not always included on Tammy's compilations - indeed, Womanhood didn't even get into the Tears of Fire boxed set of Tammy's music - so it's great to see them all here.
Three duets with George Jones are included. I would have chosen Two story house instead of Near you, but I have no complaints, as anybody who wants all Tammy and George's duets can find them elsewhere. Also included are superb covers of Sometimes when we touch (with Mark Gray), Every breath you take (with Sting, who originally recorded the song as lead singer of Police) and Silver threads and golden needles (with Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn). Her first duet hit, My elusive dreams (with David Houston) is also here.
The collection ends with Justified and ancient, her huge worldwide hit of the late eighties, which saw her singing with the KLF. Apparently this was number one in 18 countries. It was number two in the UK and also did well in America. This track is substantially different from Tammy's other music, but if you don't like it you can always hit stop when you reach it. With 26 other tracks, nobody can have any cause for complaint.

Not really too much to say here. All of Tammy's greatest hits are here in their rightful place. The songs themselves are wearing well, and the timeless classics sound as good today as when her hair was so big God himself used to reach down and backcomb it for her. My favourite song of Wynette's is Til I Can Make It On My Own, a plaintive ballad about a woman who is telling her ex that she may be leaning on him from time to time. It's one of her finest songs, and definitely one of her finest vocal performances. She had a hard life, and was on top of her game musically when she died so tragically. An excellent introduction to Wynette and a great country album in itself.

This is an excellent compilation of tracks by Tammy Wynette. She has recorded more than enough material to make a double album, but it is good to have just one disc with a good variety of tracks on it.
This CD offers the biggest hits of TammyWynette along with some of the most popular tracks from her albums. The whole compilation acts as a good introduction to, or representative of the work of Tammy Wynette.
All of the recordings are original studio tracks and there are no live versions or re recordings. The sound is excellent and the CD presentation is nice.
Generally speaking this is a fabulous compilation of a unique performer.

The sadly beautiful Tammy Wynette had one of the purest, most honest voices in country music. She was, simply, a great singer.
This is a near-perfect compilation, and excellent value at 78 mins. But why do compilers (an untrustworthy breed at the best of times) so often imagine fans of a singer want to hear forgettable, or plain inept, duets? I`m delighted to have three of her imperishable duets with her onetime husband George Jones, whose peerless voice I could listen to any time, and the version of Silver Threads with Dolly Parton & Loretta Lynn is treasurable - but I really could have lived without the sore thumb of Every Breath You Take with Sting, which is actually very good, but unnecessary on a disc that is meant to be a celebration of Tammy`s talent; and her Sometimes When We Touch is spoilt for me by the hairy-chested vocal of Mark Gray, however big a hit it was. That wonderful song My Elusive Dreams, sung with one David Houston is better, and the KLF hit is sensibly placed last, so the listener can programme it in or out easily.
The rest of this collection is all Ms Wynette, and what an artist she was.
She emotes as little as as she can get away with - except perhaps on the theatrical Stand By Your Man and one or two others - preferring to sing these superb songs straight, letting her glorious voice do all the talking, so to speak.
A couple of highlights are the rightly well-known I Don`t Wanna Play House, which, like so many of these songs, Tammy sings like she`s not only been there and done that but bought the t-shirt too, and the hearfelt, beautifully sung `Til I Can Make It On My Own.

Twenty-seven great songs on one terrific CD! I've been a country fan for more than 40 years, and have never seen a better, more thorough collection of Tammy's greatest!
This thrilling CD arrived with shrinkwrap, and sounds absolutely great! It'll give you goosebumps when you hear Tammy's "duets"! Perhaps I should say "trio" when it comes to "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" because it features Tammy with both Loretta and Dolly! How special is that! Talk about royalty!
Then there are her classic duets with George Jones...and, my favorite, the runaway hit "My Elusive Dreams" with the late GREAT David Houston.
And Tammy absolutely shimmers in the motherlode of her personal biggest hits...they are virtually ALL here!
Tammy...you are a true country legend. Gosh, we miss you! Thank you for all of the great music!
This is a truly "best-ever" set of Tammy's finest. I rate it an absolutely must-have for Tammy's new and long-time fans! Highest Recommendation! (P.S.-Liner notes are fine, though very brief. But who cares?! This CD is AWESOME!). One last thing! The eclectic-sounding pairing of Tammy with Sting on "Every Breath You Take" seems initially like an off-the-wall idea, but I really like it! It's a cool duet! Kudos to both of them for that historic moment!
