This book is from the time when the USSR still existed. The wall had not fallen yet and that, of course, shows in this books.
Ms. Anthony writes the story of Davina Graham and Ivan Sasanov. Sasanov is the Russian who has defected from his country over to the UK. After his defection he is kept at an old folks home until the British have milked him for what he is worth. After that he is promised a new identity and a new home. But Sasanov is having difficulties giving up what he knows, mainly because he still has a family in Russia that he fears will suffer if he reveals too much to the British. In comes the secret weapon of Davina Graham. The British expect him to soften in her presence, but in the end she herself softens.
I liked the book, but it was a bit sappy and the female/males roles portrayed were at bit Harlequin romance typical. They seemed off in a thriller. But the book was good and worth the read. Just remember to place yourself 25 years in the past and you will be fine.
