Of course there is nothing wrong with an album full of guitar solos. Certainly not if they are played by Warren Haynes and the like. His solos have a fluency that transcends the virtuosity of a guy like Steve Vai. It's not a show of flashing fingers and impossible to play licks, rhythms, and experiments with little known scales. (And I do like Vai but I also love great music).
Haynes is at times very reminiscent of Clapton unleashed. His guitar playing never bores and is always about the music and never about showing of. It's about hard rocking and riffing, blues playing, slide, fast licks and listening to the music.

The different guests are all playing at a very high level of musician ship. The songs are varied and cover a wide range of styles (but all are obviously very guitar oriented). The spotlight always returns to Warren Haynes and he has the chops to keep it going for three hours.

Great DVD also.

I got into Gov't Mule early this year and consequently had to have everything !!Deepest End was a long awaited Christmas prezzie-but well worth the wait.Over six hours of music in this package.A double live CD plus a three hour long DVD!I'm not going to get too deep(!)into the package but some of the highlights are Voodoo Chile with original bass player Jack Casady performing,Blind man in the dark-superb sax solo, and Thorazine shuffle which rounds off the DVD having not one but three bass players playing at once!Don't switch off here though because the credits are also worth a look.Mule fans will know what to expect, anyone who loves good, spontaneous improvised music will love this feast of sounds-you cannot caterogize the Mule-rock,jazz,blues,soul-its all in there and then some!!Warren Haynes-simply one of the best guitarists in the world.Get it NOW and see what you've been missing!

Ok, this is the first album by Government Mule I have purchased and it's great. If you like early Allman Bros, early Lynyrd Skynryd, Rory Gallagher you need to listen to Government Mule. Tracks like Which Way Do We Run? and John The Revelator show exactly why some bands are best live. Warren Haynes has a great Southern Rock voice that ranks him up there with the best - no high pitched hysterics like you get from lesser vocalists (yes Ozzie - I mean you too) but a rich growl.
(Addendum) - I Have now had this album in my car CD player almost constantly since I bought it. It's so good, every time I hear it there's something new in it. Just superb.

This album is worth it just for the sublime guitar solo at the end of Beautifully Broken (nothing like the studio version). It ranks along side Comfortably Numb for sheer heart breaking beauty.
