Burn the midnight oil 10 July 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I don't know how I missed this series over the years. It was recently recommended to me by a friend and I found a copy at the bookstore. I sat down for a minute to read the first few pages thinking that if it was any good I would have read it when it first came out. Well, an hour later and sixty pages into the book I didn't want to put it away to go pay for it. I did go ahead and get this combination volume rather than trying to find all three volumes and I recommend that to everyone.

Sometimes it pays to wait for a book because then you can read it and its sequels all at once, and I did. It took a while and I had to put up with a few inconveniences like sleep, food, friends, etc but it was well worth it. This definitely ranks as one of the best that I've ever read and I have read a few. I also have the prequel, the Legacy of Gird and can't wait to get to that as well.

Again - read this book!

Pure Paladin Goodness 11 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
This has been one of my favourite reads for such along time now. Now released as all three boks of the original trilogy in one volume of chunky Paksennarion goodness.

So why is to so good?

Okay, on the surface this is a fairly traditional story of farmgirl becomes hero. But the path she treads is very different. Paks joins the mercenaries and learns about the dirty reality of warfare. She has adventures along the way but ultimately finds that her work is unfulfilling she craves something more. In the end, her distiny leads her to becoming something very special.

I don't want to give away huge chunks of plot, but for me, this is the single best example of what a Paladin might truly be like should they have existed. Paks is endearing, naive and innocent and becomes something amazing. You will smile with her, cry for her when her world is darkest, and cheer for her when she overcomes danger.

I can only say Bravo Elizabeth Moon. I loved these books, I still love them.

How to even begin to review this masterpiece? Setting aside the fact that it is beautifully writen, that all the characters are well developed and full of life, that the plots are compulsive reading...setting aside all that, there is Paks. If you do not become enchanted with her, feel as she does, as you read this I'll be suprised! She is an ordinary real person tring to forge her own life rather than follow a path set before her. The book will take you on the journey of her life from the time when she runs away to the legend she becomes. It is to this day my all time favourite book and I have yet to find its equal - they say that Moon is Tolkien's true heir I say she has surpassed the master. Please just give it a go you will not regret it!
