5.0 out of 5 stars The Decorated Page author Gwen Diehn 13 May 2003
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Yes,this is the book I've been waiting for!
It's full of good ideas and gives constructive help with techniques, design and presentation without being proscriptive.
It is clearly written by an artist and generously presents the work of other artists so that the reader has a privileged view of pages created by other journal-keepers.
The photograhic illustrations are very helpful in suggesting appropriate media and showing how the artist has used this in decorating the page.
This is the book for anyone wanting to make altered books and decorated pages and retain their own degree of individuality.
They are not pages to copy (Thank goodness!), but they certainly point in the direction of creative expression.
This book will be very useful for anyone who keeps a sketchbook and wants to lift it to a more exciting level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiration 4 April 2008
This is simply the most inspiring book I've seen in ages. It is beautifully presented with tips and techniques on how to create journal pages. Lots of photographs help inspire you with ideas of your own and gallery examples of new and old journals are interesting and helpful. All the techniques described are easy to follow and not couched in artistic language that you would need an art degree to understand. Artist or not this will lead you on to better and brighter journalling!

4.0 out of 5 stars I Like This Book 16 Nov 2009
This is a good Journal book probably more so for the artist who keeps a diary, it's probably not as much for the mixed media artist who likes to use found objects, it's more for the sketcher although saying that is shows some good ideas for background pages, and other experiments. It shows some lovely ideas if you wanted to keep a journal or diary on your travels. This book I feel is a good book to show students the idea and examples of sketch books and art journals.

I started journalling earlier this year when I discovered the wonderful "Taking Flight" by Kelly Rae Roberts. Although "The Decorated Page" is not quite as striking at first glance, it is a great buy for the first time journaller. I say this because the pages look easier for the new journaller to be able to look at and say "Oh, I think I could do this". The best part of the book is that Gwen Diehn really gets you over "the fear of the blank page" staring at you from your new and unused as yet journal! Her ideas are easy to achieve and she gives good instructions to get you started. She also gives lots of different examples of what journals could contain. A great book for someone slightly unsure of where to start with journalling but also an excellent buy for those who are more confident. Don't miss out on Kelly Rae Roberts' book too have to buy that one!..My last words would be ...if you can, buy both....although I know there are more...I picked these two and am very happy with both.
