Like everything Mr Kernick does, The Debt is class. Believable, punchy, gripping and with enough detail to make you feel you're there.

If you hadn't been told that this was written as part of a promotion for BMW, I think you would easily guess due to the multiple references! It's not bad but not great, I am not normally one to sit on the fence but think you'll know what I mean if you read it. Not a huge fan of short stories generally and this did not change my view.

A short story that's short on just about everything except price. Being a Simon Kernick fan I was disappointed by this retrospectively-distributed name-exploiting work.

I had never heard of this author but came across this as a free e-book, read the review and it looked good so downloaded it. It was so good, I looked at some of his other books and bought a couple more and they are excellent. This author is now on my list of favourites along with James Patterson, Harlen Coben and Peter James.

1.0 out of 5 stars I hate BMW even more now 29 May 2013

This book was written as some sort of promo for BMW and it tells. Not the same Kernick attention to detail and style as what you would normally expect from him. Not impressed at all and frankly have lost a bit of respect for the author for writing such a piece of well advertising really.

Looking past the BMW link it was really not a good read. I think it was free as far as memory serves but I even regret the effort it took to press a button to download it.

Do yourself a favour and buy one of his proper books but seriously a instruction manual for a Ikea beside table is better reading than this!
