Product Description

The New World, 1545...

Vanquished by the Spanish Empire, little remains of the Aztec and Mayan civilizations. From the ashes of their cities, a unified legend emerges: the Christians who conquered them possessed a mysterious object, an artifact so powerful-so deadly-that it was known throughout the Americas as "the death relic."

Yucatan Peninsula, present day...

When Maria Pelati's research team disappears in Mexico, Jonathon Payne and David Jones embark on a perilous mission to find the missing archaeologists. The duo quickly finds a link between the group's work and its recent disappearance. Following the clues left behind, the pair try to solve one of the darkest mysteries of the new world, but their quest for the relic might cost them their lives.

big disapointment 10 Jan 2012
By lev
Format:Paperback
Having read and loved the previous books by chris i was looking forward to this new one with relish. I was halfway through another book and dropped it as soon as this was delivered. I now wish i hadn't. A huge disapointment. Alot of time is spent going over the background of payne and jones, i'd much rather he just mention them and say "read the plantation for full details". Of course i understand why he does this but to be honest i found it started to drag on in this book. There is little in a story line compared to previous books and the ending, well what ending...?
After the Secret Crown gave us alot of facts mixed in with fiction creating such a truly wonderful and interesting read i have to say the Death Relic just didn't live up to the standard expected.
I'm sorry to say this is the first time i have ever written a review and so must sum up my disapointment.

Having supported and followed Chris Kuzneski from his very first offerings I always look forward to a new Payne and Jones book with delight and excitement. This was no different causing me to stop reading another book half way through so I could start this one as soon as it plopped through the door. I was not disappointed at all. The traditional banter between the characters was there and all the same familiar characters put in an appearance. In addition to this there was a return to some old characters from the second book. The fiery Maria returned a character I greatly enjoyed when she made an appearance the first time.

However, don't panic if you haven't read any of the other books because the author summarises the past stories to allow you to read this as a stand alone book brilliantly. My only criticism if I had one would be that the end scene was a little rushed and could have maybe lasted a couple of extra pages although the last chapter then summarises what happened.

In addition to being an excellent author Chris Kusneski goes one further in thrill his fans. A web page dedicated to pictures from the areas contained in the book and a constant communication with his fans. This is an author who knows how to keep his fans happy a brilliant combination of enthralling writing and fan appreciation. Please buy and read this book.
