Captivated 14 May 2010
By Yogini
Format:Hardcover
I found this an absorbing book with incredible insight into all stages of human life. It was at times poignant, at times amusing, at times familiar but always absorbing. A story which grips you from the opening line and you are immediately hooked.

Once started I could not put it down, I wanted to get to the end but I did not want to finish it. Time should be devoted to the reading of this book in order to appreciate its gentle shifts, its beautiful writing and its very real characters.

I have just finished reading this unique book and cannot wait for her next one - in the meantime I will read this one again (and probably again).

Perceptive 13 Jun 2010
By Pen pal VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
I was not surprised to learn that the author is a trained psychologist because her observations are so perceptive. Each character is so well analysed and defined and it really was like meeting them and getting to know them with all their frailties and insecurities and yet, with Heath and Kitty especially their strengths. Lomond's stroke and the subsequent aftermath brings to the surface so much that has lain dormant for so long. The portrayal of Lomond and how he is feeling inside after suffering the stroke is really well depicted, and makes you really think about how much we take for granted until we cannot do it for ourselves! I am sure we will be reading alot more from this very talented author. She has a lovely way of describing people with all their messy emotions. Every character was well drawn and unique, just as it should be.

fantastic 30 May 2011
Format:Paperback
What a wonderful book!! Such a surprise to discover that this is Sue Peebles first one. From the start, it was difficult to put the book down. To find that Sue is a trained Psychologist and Social Worker is not surprising in view of the empathy, skills and knowledge displayed in her writings. Her tender approach to the characters and to their failings makes the reader re-evaluate their own feelings particularly when it comes to addressing issues involving guilt and responsibilities when terminal illness strikes a family. Well done. I look forward to reading more from Sue Peebles.
