Product Description

Review

"'McKinty's literate, expertly crafted third crime novel confirms his place as one of his generation's leading talents... he possesses a talent for pace and plot structure that belies his years. Dennis Lehane fans will definitely be pleased.' - Publisher's Weekly 'McKinty crackles with raw talent. His dialogue is superb, his characters rich and his plotting tight and seamless. He also writes with a wonderful (and wonderfully humorous) flair for language, raising his work above most crime-genre offerings and bumping right up against literature. Michael [Forsythe] is smarter, funnier and deadlier than almost everyone he's with, and this makes him a terrific guide to the underworld he can't seem to escape. Not that we don't want to see him try.' - San Francisco Chronicle * 'The Dead Yard is compelling crime fiction at its finest!' Ed McBain"

Out of the three this is probably the weakest book. I'm not quite sure what it is but somehow the story doesn't have the same punch as the other two. However i still streamed through it and throughly enjoyed it. Its just the odd part that lets it down but thats like saying a rolls royce has bad points. I still highly encourage you to read it.

A newspaper review of another book by McKinty intrigued me so I ordered The Dead Yard Trilogy as well. I found the books fascinating. The 'hero'is amusing, attractive, arouses your sympathy - but definitely on the wrong side of the law and can kill three or four people at a time coolly and efficiently. The author gives enough background to show how this personality has been conditioned and stresses the individual's responsiility for his own survival.

It is quite simple: there is no crime novelist who is writing as well as McKinty at the moment. The Dead Yard is the second in a trilogy and is a close match to his first - Dead I Well May Be - in terms of the quality of the prose.

McKinty has an incredible ability to draw the reader in with the realism of his writing style. There is lots of violence in this book but it melds wonderfully with beautiful, sensitive passages.

The plot is gripping and the main character is compelling: it's one to buy.
